Why Saint John?

Saint John, NBTaylor College is located on the east side of Saint John. The City of Saint John is the oldest incorporated city in Canada and the largest in the province of New Brunswick. The ‘old city’ (downtown) is only 10-15 minutes away (perhaps twice that by bus) and a bus stop is within sight of the College.

Saint John has a number of historic sites including the Loyalist House, Fort Howe and the Loyalist Burial Ground. In addition there is the famous Reversing Falls attraction.

The city divides into three distinct sections: the older North and South ends, the West side and the newly developing suburbs that stretch out along the Kennebecasis Valley. The cruise ships include Saint John on their itinerary, and there is a lovely walkway around the Harbour (when the fog lifts!). Saint John also has two beautiful city parks, Rockwood Park and Irving Nature Park, with walking/ski trails, an ocean view and much flora and fauna. Rockwood Park is the largest city park in Canada, covering 2,200 acres. There is a regular ferry service to Digby, Nova Scotia and the city has its own airport with regular flights to the rest of Canada and beyond.

The immediate area in which the College is situated is within walking distance of the following:

  • McAllister Mall: When leaving the driveway of the college, turn right and proceed to the end of Mountain View Drive. At the corner, walk down the hill to your right. You will see the Mall and shopping complex on your left. It has all the fashion stores of the average mall, as well as a grocery store called Sobey’s, department stores Zellers and Sears, a Tim Horton’s, Starbucks and a large food court. It will provide numerous ways to lighten your wallet or purse.
  • The Parkway Mall is a much more modest shopping area right across the street from McAllister Mall. There is a Dollar Store, and a Chinese restaurant, as well as a Value Village (second-hand clothing store).
  • Immediately across the street from Parkway Mall is Empire Theatres - Studio 10 along with numerous other outlets and fast-food restaurants.
  • Behind Parkway Mall is a Wal-Mart, Future Shop, Canadian Tire, and Home Depot.
  • Three pharmacies are relatively close: Shoppers’ Drug Mart is just beyond McAllister Mall, and Lawton’s is inside the mall, along with the Zellers pharmacy.
  • The Baptist BookRoom is located a block past Parkway Mall, and uptown are the Anglican Book Store and the Canadian Bible Society.
